Magazines now live in Google Play UK

After a slightly broken accidental unveiling yesterday, Google has now opened up a fully stocked magazine section for Android users in the UK. It comes complete with one-off purchases and a rolling subscription model for ongoing issues, with prices around the same level as their high street, physical equivalents.

Here it is, in all its purple-icon glory:

We had a great time last night rifling through the racks looking for niche titles. It’s not a particularly comprehensive line up, but there ought to be a few things there worth having right now, if only to see how it all works.

Shame there’s no real discounting going on. Hello costs £2 in the shops and £2 on Google Play, for example. You’d think ther’d be a slight discount in it for us, seeing as no paper/lorries/shops are involved.

I’d also expect to see any physical magazines I’m subscribed to available for FREE in their digital version.

Some magazines (e.g. New Scientist) are more expensive for an electronic subscription than the dead tree version :-(
