According to the latest smartphone sales data covering the UK, Sony has overtaken HTC to become the #2 Android phone company over here, moving up to second place behind the unstoppable Samsung.
Industry sales stats quoted by Mobile Today claim Sony sold 500,000 Android models in the UK over the summer months of 2012, just ahead of the 440,000 units sold by HTC over the same period — but still a long, long way behind the astonishing 3.2 million Android models shifted by Samsung.
Sony’s putting this success down to increased network support thanks to greater confidence in its name now it’s dumped the Ericsson branding, although the way it’s released an enormous number of Android models this year covering the entire range of power and size formats must’ve helped too.

/ December 2, 2012Or if we’re looking at percentage Samsung has, what 71% of the Android market, also good work by Sony to move up to number 2, but wow what a fall from the previous Android darlings HTC. Their HTC Desire was at point the biggest rival to the 3GS. The original SGS was the Desire’s big Android rival. But SGS2 launched before the Sensation and turned out to be the new leader of Android handsets and they haven’t looked back. Samsung have the marketing budget that HTC can but dream off too…..

/ December 3, 2012Also, HTC wasted the money they earnt while they were Nr1, they wasted millions and millions on “on live” and “beats”…… didnt exactly have the desired effect…

/ December 3, 2012Hopefully this is the wake up call HTC need to climb back up the rankings. The original Desire used to be ‘the’ handset to have but what’s happened since? – Samsung have come in and stolen your crown!
I’m a big fan of HTC in general (and esp. the Sense interface) and I’m limping along, holding out with a Desire HD, just hoping they turn a corner in the new year and bring out a comparable phone to the S3/iPhone 5 (or preferably better).
Dear HTC, Don’t force me to get another brand! Listen to your customers and bring out something they actually want.
Rant over.

/ December 3, 2012They rushed the HTC One X out to beat the S3 onto the market, it had some issues and in speed comparison tests next to the S3 it was second, but since mine got the update to 4.0.4 it was much improved. HTC needed to ensure that the JB update was out around the same time as Samsung did for their S3, but to date it is still not available here in the UK, yet they’ve released the HTC One X+ which is essentially the same phone with a slightly faster Tegra 3 processor and larger memory which runs 4.1….
