UK network Three has launched two new Android tablets today, both teamed with data SIM cards for on-the-go access to its “ultrafast” 3G network. The Asus Fonepad can be yours for as little as £7.50 a month (but with a £179 upfront fee), that gives buyers the tablet and a 1GB monthly data allowance, or you can take that up to £12.53 a month for a £29 upfront fee on a 24-month contract.
It’s all a bit complicated.
The new Sony Xperia Tablet Z is available on Three contracts now as well, also accompanied by a rather bewildering range of mobile data options. Here’s a list:
Given the massive spread of Wi-Fi connectivity and hotspots dotted around the place these days, we’re not overly convinced of the need for a standalone tablet and subsidised data SIM. Not unless you’re a bit on the wealthy side and have a severe internet addiction.
