Analyst Kantar Worldpanel has released its latest numbers concerning the UK smartphone scene, estimating the various quantities of phones sold in the three-month period to the end of February 2013. Its numbers claim Android-powered phones accounted for 58.3% of all smartphone sales in the last quarter, up from 48.3% this time last year. iOS devices took 20% of the market, with Windows Phone up to 6.7% from just 3% last year.
Smartphone PENETRATION now sees 63% of the entire mobile market using a phone deemed smart, while 83% of all phones sold in the quarter were of the smart variety. Samsung’s the individual winner, taking 36.2% of the entire smartphone market with its enormous Galaxy range.
Meanwhile, LG’s Nexus 4 has also been a big winner. Kantar says the latest Nexus has overcome its patchy start to take 4.3% of all smartphone sales during the last quarter, after LG and Google managed to sort out the stock woes that saw the initial launch descend into travesty.
