Linux development team Ubuntu has followed through with its promise to launch a touch-based OS for mobile devices, with the Ubuntu Touch Developer Preview now available for download. If you own a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 or Nexus 10 you’re now able to download and install the test release, although Ubuntu warns it “does not provide all of the features and services of a retail phone and cannot replace your current handset.”
So if you’re in the lucky position of having a spare Nexus phone or tablet you can use for hacking around on, this is for you.
If not, it’ll just ruin your new toy. Plus, of course, this is basically initiating a complete wipe of your current hardware in order to install the new OS, so your current apps, settings and data will all be nuked in the process.
