The BBC has released an all-new version of its iPlayer Android app, completely refreshing the mobile app’s layout and adding in a decent collection of new features. It now has an Android 4.0 style tabbed layout with the now standard pull down menu option, plus a much prettier radio section and will now work with Andriod 4.2 devices.
And YES the radio now works while the app is minimised and the screen is turned off, with a notification in the Android menu telling you what station you’re listening to…
…plus the BBC says it has has added a proper downloadable Favourites system, which will automatically download the next episode of a show to your phone for immediate watching, although… I couldn’t find a Favourites button in the app.
Nice picture quality too. It’s a big improvement. Get the updated Android iPlayer app on the Play Store here.

/ December 17, 2012I can’t find a favourites button/page either. That was the the best part of the last iplayer version! Any ideas if this will appear any time soon? Is it even possibe for this to appear without a new release?!?! It’s a damn shame it’s gone – totally ruined my iplayer experience =/
