One of the many new features soon to arrive as part of Android 4.2 should hopefully calm fears about any possible future mobile malware epidemic, with Google including the option to have your phone monitor all apps you install for bad behaviour patterns.
The system won’t actually scan apps on your phone or tablet, though, with Android 4.2 simply pinging the app’s details to a server to see if it matches up with any known threats. So it seems like more a reassurance tool than an actual anti-malware scanning system…
…as rogue apps on the Play Store usually get terminated pretty quickly. It seems the main protection here is for those who manually download apps from the web, where you’re outside of Google’s existing safety net and therefore much more vulnerable to attacks.
