Some more amazing data covering the non-stop growth of Android has been published by analyst IDC, which claims 136 million Android powered smartphones were shipped in the third quarter of 2012 – accounting for a huge 75% share of smartphone sales around the world.
While Apple’s iOS devices also increased their sales from 17.1m units in Q3 of 2011 to 26.9m in Q3 of 2012, Android’s near-doubling of sales over the same period means Apple’s share of smartphone shipments only grew very slightly, up to 14.9% this year from 13.8% in 2011.
Here is a table explaining all of that again in simple number terms:
Microsoft, Nokia and the rest of the Windows Phone massive will be pleased to see WP sales more than double to 3.6m units last quarter, but it’s still a long, long way behind. A long way behind Symbian.
