Samsung Galaxy S III Android 4.1 update launching soon on O2 and Vodafone

Both Vodafone and O2 have updated their customers with concrete plans to bring the “Jelly Bean” Android 4.1 code to their versions of the Samsung Galaxy S III, with the networks preparing to release the code over the next few days.

O2 says the 4.1 update will be hitting phones bought through the network TODAY, while Vodafone says it will be getting it out to Galaxy S III network users connected through the network on Monday. They will therefore join Three users who got it yesterday.

It is all about to happen. Both O2 and Vodafone say the update will be made available through over-the-air download and Samsung’s KIES desktop tool. The odd thing is we’re yet to see the OS upgrade appear for unlocked versions of the Galaxy S III.

I think it is now Samsung policy to update unlocked phones last (at least in the UK)

Yes this is true, it happened with the ICS update for the GS2, where as previously unbranded got the updates first, as the carriers had to do their own testing and adding their own crapware.

Where as now unbranded gets it last, so that samsung knows that theres no issues with the update on all the carriers, then they can release the no branded update.

There is some screwed up logic behind it, but meh, just buy nexus phones, you would of had jellybean in july, and would already be on 4.1.2, which this update does not entail.

Bah, nexus 7 has upgraded *from* 4.1 while I have been waiting for the “soon” upgrade from Samsung for my unlocked S3. Poland has had it for about a month, and even some network locked phones have it now.

Between that and the horrid crapware they install, Samsung have made me wish that I had bought a Nexus phone instead. Next time, I will. QQ.
