EE has announced it’s ready to launch the UK’s first proper LTE or 4G network, with the first phase of the roll-out set to start on October 30th. 10 cities will get the coverage on that day (EE’s not said which 10, though), with the plan being to cover 16 by the end of 2012.
In terms of Android use, that means LTE-enabled versions of the Samsung Galaxy SIII, HTC One XL and the Huawei Ascend P1 will be on sale, alongside some things from Nokia and that Apple telephone everyone seems to talk about all the time.
Orange and T-Mobile both now have listings for their ranges of “4G Ready” phones, with the cheapest on offering being Huawei’s lovely Ascend P1 LTE, which you can pick up for “free” on a regular 3G plan from £36 a month.
EE is encouraging buyers to purchase 4G-ready models through Orange and T-Mobile now, which will be transferable to an EE contracts when they’re launched. More money may be involved in the upgrade to 4G, but EE is yet to reveal its plans and prices.
