Google’s developer people have updated their Platform Versions data, giving us our regular look at how the various versions of Android out there are represented on users’ phones and tablets. The predictable news once again is the continuing rapid rise of Android 4.0, with the many versions of Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich OS now powering just over 21% of all Android devices – up from 16% last month.
The stats are compiled by counting connections to Google’s Play Store, so there’s some leeway in allowing for devices sold without Play Store access, but those are in the minority these days…
…so that’s a pretty accurate measure of where Android is right now, and who’s using what. And look, Android 1.5, most people’s first taste of the OS, is about to blink out of existence, on just 0.2% of all Android hardware today.
