Downloads coming soon to Android BBC iPlayer app

We have some good news and some bad news for users of the BBC’s Android iPlayer app. The good news is that the long-awaited, constantly-demanded ability to download programmes for offline viewing is coming soon to the app, with the BBC letting us queue up shows over wi-fi for watching away from home.

The bad news is this new functionality has just launched today inside the iOS version of the app, so we’re left until last.

Hopefully the BBC will take this opportunity to fix the iPlayer app’s abysmal radio section, too, which is rendered useless by demanding the app’s front and centre and with your phone’s display active, just to listen to music.
