Adobe's Flash Player reinstated to UK Play Store after BBC pressure

Adobe’s Flash Player, which was supposed to have been banished from the Google Play Store, is back up – but only for Android users in the UK. Adobe says the move to re-release the Flash Player app came about due to pressure from “strategic partners” in the UK.

In a news piece on the reinstatement of the app, the BBC says that the BBC itself was one of those strategic players, with the request no doubt made due to the way the Beeb’s iPlayer content is delivered solely through Flash on Android. Adobe said: “Flash Player continues to be available on Google Play for users in the UK for a short while due to requests from strategic partners.”

So there it is, back from the dead for a limited period only for us lucky UK consumers.

Why can’t the Android BBC app use non flash streams? It could use the same streams as the iPad/ iPhone version surely?
Maybe it’s not as simple as that – relinking all those hyperlinks would take ages ;-)
