UK network O2 is the latest to join the mobile payment world, making its O2 Wallet service available to everyone from today. It’s a rather messy solution, requiring you to register and fund a standalone O2 account via a credit card or some other means, then use a bar code scanner to find and pay for items through the phone.
Money can also be transferred to friends via the medium of “Money Messages” (basically just texts) and there will be “deals” areas within the app, which sound handy, although there’s currently no NFC support in the software.
The O2 Wallet app is on the Play Store here. There are some hoops to jump through over on O2’s web site to make it all work first, should you be bothered enough to get it going.
