Asus "working on a fix" for TF101 Transformer Ice Cream Sandwich update problems

Asus has come in for quite a lot of stick over its keenly awaited Android 4.0 update for its original Transformer tablet, which arrived here a couple of weeks ago. Users have been reporting random reboots when in use and lock-ups while rebooting, plus several other awkward bugs making the ICS update less than user friendly.

Asus is now saying a “fix” of sorts is on the way, which should arrive in the next week or so. Here’s Asus on the issues plaguing the updated tablet:

Thank you to everyone who has given us feedback regarding the ICS TF101 update. We apologise for the issues some users have been experiencing and we’d like to assure you all that we are working on a fix. We don’t have an exact date for release yet but we’re aiming for early next week.

And a little more on the “wide variety” of problems users have been seeing:

The issues been experienced are down to such a wide variety of reasons that there isn’t one interim solution. We’ve heard of users finding successful solutions through factory resets, wiping rogue apps and deleting/updating widgets though

Asus sounds like it’s in a bit of a mess at the moment. Hopefully this magical “fix” for the TF101′s Android 4.0 update will solve everything next week.

No real problems here, and they made the right decision to release..

Asus you need customer beta releases for techie consumers.

Tech consumers are such moaners. Moan when the update isn’t out and moan just as much when it is.

The only major problem I have experienced is the stock browser keeps getting sent to mobile sites. Installing Browser+ from the Market (from the play???) fixes that.

I’m having some issues. I always keep in the keyboard dock. I have some general instability, not terrible. I like the update, but I do find it locks up – I have to remove from keyboard long press power and restart. I don’t even mind this so much as that every time I pick it up it is stone dead from being frozen in this state. My battery life was phenomenal after the latest honeycomb update and now it is a total disappointment.

Whelp – you can add stuck in boot loop to that.

In the USA, got the “fix” yesterday. Camera Panorama mode now works, the “Random Reboot” is still going strong.

Mine works fine when I’m using it, but leave it alone for an hour or more and come back it’s almost always sitting stuck on the bootup screen. Very annoying, even though I really like ICS.

I found that the random reboot was cured by setting the wifi to disconnect when in sleep mode. The option is hidden away on the menu and you have to enable advanced by clicking on the three dots top right. Does this help anyone else?
