Here’s a slightly odd coincidence. Motorola and Sony Ericsson have both launched separate explanations of the issues involved in updating their phone ranges to Android 4.0, with the two companies putting out long-winded explanations of how the OS update process works from start to final release.
Sony Ericsson’s Android 4.0 process walkthrough is here. Is uses phrases like “Bring up phase” and “legacy code.” Motorola’s is slightly less informative and can be read here. It says things like “Customer pre-release” and is easier to understand for the layman.
Both are very interesting indeed, although they also read like slightly apologetic explanations of how hard and complex the process is and why we should be a bit more patient – and stop whining at them on Facebook for updates.

/ December 7, 2011Good insight into what has to occur. They genuinely aren’t bullshitting or making excuses, I work in a similar industry and see similar amounts of red tape when working with radio equipment and network providors.
However I do feel it’s paving the way for some bad news, that Jan 1st is not a reasonable expectation….
