Huawei releases official Android 2.3 update for U8800 Titan / IDEOS X5

Huawei has finally released an official Android upgrade for the popular U8800 model, which has been sold in the UK as the Huawei U8800 Titan and is also known in some places as the IDEOS X5.

Whatever you call the thing, it’s just got a bit better, thanks to an official update to Android 2.3 appearing courtesy of the maker. The 192MB file you need is over on Huawei’s site. It didn’t make the “end of November” deadline, but it’s here now.

On its Twitter feed, Huawei warns that owners who’ve installed custom ROMs on the popular little hacker-friendly phone might encounter difficulties when upgrading. But then that’s all part of the fun, eh?

  1. This 2.3 release is full of bugs!

Look on the XDA Forums and you will see how bad it really is. Things like the IMEI number changing to 0, Random Reboots and GPS/Wifi Problems.

This is a complete fail release from Huawei, I am gutted I really want to update.

Really? I was thinking of updating my X5 to android 2.3, but after seeing your comment, I’m a bit frightened cause theres no way of reverting back to android 2.2 once the update is complete!!

      • You can downgrade easily, check out the XDA Forums.

It has a locked Bootloader but this can be bypassed and the 2.3 can also be Rooted too.

        Hope this helps :)
