The Galaxy Nexus volume bug saga is limping on, with retailer Handtec our new favourite source of information from Samsung’s distributors. In its latest blog update, the shop says Samsung is “flashing” Galaxy Nexus phones, prior to shipping a new batch of handsets out to retailers next week.
Which is still a bit vague, but there you go. Here’s exactly what Handtec said:
Samsung Distribution is stating that units are currently being ‘flashed’ to fix any issues – deliveries should commence in the week commencing 28th November
So it sounds like a software “fix” of some sort is indeed on the way for the new Nexus. And if so, shouldn’t it already be available via over-the-air methods for the phones affected?

/ November 26, 2011The original Galaxy Tab got an upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3 for select batch numbers 5 months ago and Samsung still hasn’t completed the rollout for the remaining batch numbers. No reason for it given. Silence from Samsung when you ask them. Nothing to do with networks because even with the unlocked sim-free models, some have the upgrade already and some can’t get it, even via Kies. You can’t apply logic to Samsung’s update scheduling.

Everything is supposed to work in theory but there ALWAYS is a screw up. They’re tech support is full of useless, hapless fiends that have no clue how the technology works. How can you mess up something so big?
Its probably the same department responsible for running behind on all the OS updates to the U.S. carriers.
I wonder if this has AP Mobile on it. Suck down you’re data caps and throttle unlimited users on lightning fast LTE speeds! Get out you’re wallet. haha

/ November 28, 2011If they are just flashing a software patch, I think it would be easier to keep selling phones in stock and send the update over the air. For me this makes more sense than opening thousands of boxes insert battery, plug the phone to flash new software, and delay all deliveries…
So unless it also involves some sort of a hardware fix I don’t see why holding back phone sells..

/ November 28, 2011It’s the distributors who say the phones are being held back by Samsung Distribution for flashing. But whether that is some big con of not we can’t say.
What we can say is that a few short words from Google and Samsung five days ago is not appeasing the anger of those who have real difficulty in using their phones.

/ November 28, 2011But if those phones don’t show any problem when used in US frequencies, Samsung could just redirect current EU stock to US, and correct the hardware in new revision for EU… this way, no software workaround would be needed
