HTC Sensation, Sensation XL and XE Android 4.0 update due “early 2012″

The Android phone maker has announced that its standard HTC Sensation and the Sensation XL and XE updates will be part of the “first wave” of its phones to receive the Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” update, with a vague launch date of “earl 2012″ attached to the OS upgrade’s launch.

No other phones are mentioned, apart from the EVO 3D and a stack of US handsets. Here’s the full thing from HTC:

HTC knows how excited our fans are to get their hands on Google’s latest version of Android, Ice Cream Sandwich, so we’re thrilled today to announce the first wave of HTC phones that will receive upgrades.

Ice Cream Sandwich is coming in early 2012 to a variety of devices including the HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XL and HTC Sensation XE, as well as the HTC Rezound*, HTC EVO 3D, HTC EVO Design 4G* and HTC Amaze 4G* through close integration with our carrier partners.

We’re continuing to assess our product portfolio, so stay tuned for more updates on device upgrades, timing and other details about HTC and Ice Cream Sandwich.

Great news about it coming to the Standard HTC Sensation, but you’d think HTC would make a bit more of an effort to keep older users onside, rather than just using the Android 4.0 announcement as an excuse to help flog its current line up of phones.

I bet HTC don’t come out if this smelling of roses.
What’s the odds in the Desire HD never seeing ICS?

  2. Great news for the owners of those phones… But I’m disappointed that my Incredible S won’t get anything :((( At least in the nearest future…

I’d be surprised if HTC didnt do the DHD, especially after having signed up to Google’s 18 month updates policy.

However, having been at the end of their Hero 2.1 and Desire 2.3 fiascos they are clearly capable of anything/nothing, whatever the most accurate is ;)

I’m surprised people seem to put any faith into the 18 month update policy. So far all I have seen to prove its existence is a couple of headlines around Google IO.

I like seeing the HTC Wildfire users asking when they’ll get the update. Poor chaps.

HTC are making money hand over fist. It’s only inevitable they’ll forget about their users.

    @ Peter

they confirmed it on their Facebook pages (HTC and HTC UK) that they will be adhering to it. If they don’t then we all know what they are like (even more than we do now)

  7. Why not the Thunderbolt? I hope Verizon gets off the schneid and pushes HTC to upgrade VZ phones.
