UK owners of the lovely HTC Desire S have been reporting the arrival of an OS update over the last week or two, with unbranded phones receiving an upgrade to Android 2.3.5. As well as a few minor changes from Google’s end, the update includes the slightly refreshed HTC Sense 3.0 interface, as found on the HTC Sensation.
Which means new lock screen toys, fancy Notification pane updates and more for Desire S users. Lucky them.
As well as unbranded phones, owners of the Desire S bought through Vodafone, O2 and Orange in the UK all seem to have been getting the update over the last week or so.
Thanks to Doug for the tip.

/ October 29, 2011I had my unlocked/SIM-free HTC Desire S for a month now and as you described i still have Android 2.3.3 and no sign of 2.3.5 even after several tries on the Update Software under phone settings.
seems to me either this news is just a “false rumour” or HTC decided to pull-out the update the last minute (perhaps maybe due to bugs) or there is no update AT ALL.

/ October 29, 2011LOL or you just havnt recieved it yet.
The way OTA updates work is that they roll it out in stages…. so that their servers dont crash with everyone doing it on the same day, they give every batch of phones a few days, before they do the next batch.
Therefore, stop being so suspicious, this is the sensible way to do it, my mate spent 5 hours without any luck trying to update his iphone, as it kept crashing on him kos everyone was trying to do it at the same time.

/ October 31, 2011Desire S is an excellent choice for a new phone – sure it may not see updates beyond ICS but it’s a fully featured gingerbread phone that goes fairly cheap since it was pre-sensation and you can get it on Three with unlimited data.
Pretty much what the rhyme is, i think, hardware wise.

/ November 13, 2011I’ve been waiting for the update for ages and it is a carrier free phone from the Carphone Warehouse. I find it really annoying that the HTC Rhyme has Sense 3.5 out of the box, even though the hardware in it is almost identical to the hardware in my phone.

/ November 1, 2011Those of us who never got the earlier (and troublesome) software version 1.47 update don’t seem to be getting this new one either. The new rollout initially started to a few people in the UK about a month ago, then stopped, then started again with a subtly different version, now seems to have stopped again. Are HTC using us as beta testers?

Anybody got any info on what it will happen?

/ January 6, 2012Having looked at other forums etc., it would appear that there is a common trend and all Desire S with software version 1.28.401.1 are not receiving the 2.3.5/sense 3.0 update for some reason!
HTC have refused to comment so far and are constantly fobbing customers off saying that they’ll just have to wait.
It’s about time HTC got their fingers out of their backsides and sorted this.

/ January 9, 2012Still waiting, and this wouldn’t be the cause for me as I’m currently on 1.47.110.3. Had a look at my mates the other night (she’s on O2 UK) and she hasn’t had the update yet either.

Checked updates, and got 147. Installed that, then a few mins later, checked for updates again, and 235 was ready. Phone has literally just restarted after installing the update, so I am about to play and find out the changes.
