Report: Samsung Italy confirms Galaxy S II Android 4.0 update

According to Italian news site HDBlog.it, Samsung Italy has confirmed plans to update the Samsung Galaxy S II to the new “Ice Cream Sandwich” Android 4.0 release, with the OS upgrade set to arrive from Q2 of 2012.

But there’s bad news for owners of, well, any other Samsung Android phone, as only the S II and the company’s recent range Android tablets are scheduled to receive the update. According to the report, these are the devices that will get Android 4.0 at some point:

Galaxy S II
Galaxy Note
Galaxy Tab 10.1
Galaxy Tab 8.9
Galaxy Tab 7.7
Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus

Yet more bad news for Galaxy Ace fans…

galaxy note 1

…but good news for Jennifer and her lovely new Galaxy Note.

I have the original Galaxy Tab 3G. Samsung has released a 2.3 update but only for certain batches of the tablet. If you bought a SIM free version from Carphone Warehouse, you got the update 4 months ago via Kies. If you bought it from Phones4U, you still ain’t got it. Same tablet – sim free 3G. Same Kies. No reason that Samsung can give for denying the update to all, and no date for resolution.

So I wouldn’t put it past Samsung to release 4.0 in some regions for the SII but not others – only last week the Samsung twitter account stated they had no plans to bring 4.0 to the UK for the SII. “Oh, there would be uproar?” There doesn’t seem to be for the Tab. Websites (not yours) seem happy to report that it’s been rolled out without checking.

You can upgrade Galaxy tab from phones 4u to Gingerbread easily. Just download the official update from the german samsung store. Download the required firmware updater from XDA developers site. No hacking required takes about 10-20 mins if you have to read guide step by step like i did. But it works ;p -thats what i did – i got peed off with kies months back. Just dissapoined we wont get official Ice cream that really sux.
