HTC has just issued a longer statement on its plans for updating its Android phones to the new Android 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” release, but… hasn’t really said anything of particular interest.
The only exciting bit is that HTC says: “Our goal is to upgrade as many HTC devices as possible” – but it doesn’t specifically name check any current models. So there you go. Here’s the fact-free announcement nonetheless, via HTC’s Facebook page:
Since Google unveiled Ice Cream Sandwich earlier this week, HTC has been looking closely at the new OS’s features and functionality to determine our upgrade plans. We’re a recognized industry leader in providing fast and consistent upgrades to our Android devices (see what Engadget had to say about our upgrades: http://engt.co/qMb9nQ), and Ice Cream Sandwich will be no different.
Upgrades require a careful balance of hardware and software to ensure the best possible performance and usability, so please stay tuned as we assess our product portfolio. Our goal is to upgrade as many HTC devices as possible and we’ll be sharing details on specific devices and timing in the coming weeks!
So it looks like we’re all set for a long, hard winter of non-stop Android 4.0 update news, complaints, questions, deadlines, more questions, petitions, tears, excuses, frustration and…
…business as usual for Android owners. At least it’ll keep us busy.

/ October 22, 2011Well seeing as the 2.3 update for the desire was such a botch job I wouldn’t hold your breath. Hopefully the cyanogen squad will manage to do a port.

/ October 22, 2011Yeah HTC have no interest in supporting their older handsets. They release new ones every 5 bloody minutes its ridiculous. I’m running CM7 on my Desire right now and hope to have CM9 (CM8 is reserved for honeycomb) as soon as it’s available.
