The official Currys/PC World eBay outlet is, at time of writing at least, selling a stack of “Seller refurbished” Advent Vega Android tablets for £139 including postage and packing.
Which, if you don’t mind using an Android tablet that’ll arrive running Android 2.2 that’s possibly been returned to the shop by a fussy consumer who thought he was actually buying a cheap iPad, is one heck of a good deal.
Forget your XOOMs and your Transformers – the original Tegra 2 10″ Android tablet is still one of the most popular Android tabs out there. Link via HUKD.

/ September 5, 2011This is an amazing deal as there are now 3.2 Honeycomb ROMs available for it….
Shame I just sold my soul for a Galaxy S2…

/ September 5, 2011Not a bad deal, but it’s got the old Tegra2 chipset so won’t ever properly support Honeycomb at a decent speec (anyone that’s used one of the hacked ROMS will know that).
Don’t let anyone tell you that you can slap a honeycomb hacked ROM on this and it will be as good as a £300 tablet, as that’s simply not true. The display will always suck and it will sub sub-optimally.
But for a few quid more than a HP Touchpad, it’s not bad deal.

/ September 5, 2011Clearly you haven’t used a Vega running Honeycomb. Old Tegra2 chipset? It’s exactly the same that the Asus Transformer, Motorola Xoom, Galaxy Tab etc have. The only differences between the Vega and a newer tablet is 512mb ram, 1024×600 screen resolution and a bad viewing angle. VegaComb runs absolutely fine on the Vega. I know this because I have one myself.

/ September 6, 2011Yes I have, and it’s not a patch on my Transformer.
And like I said, don’t let idiots tell you that it’s the same chipset as the current Honeycomb tablets, IT’s NOT. Sure it might have a Tegra2 chip in it, but the Vega runs Harmony (Tegra 250) chipset, All the tablets you mention (that ship with Honeycomb) have the newer Honeycomb Ventana chipset. There is a substantial difference between the two. This is why the Vega roms rub like crap.

/ September 7, 2011Harmony/Ventana is the development name for the motherboard. They both use exactly the same Nvidia Tegra2 250 chipset.

/ September 6, 2011Shame the screen on the thing will always be washed out and grey regardless of what ROM you manage to hack onto the thing. Still waiting for CM7 to get ported to my touchpad. Will be a nice compliment to my iPad :)
