Android 3.1 update for Motorola XOOM now live in parts of Europe

The angry masses of Motorola XOOM owners may now be a little calmer today, thanks to Motorola officially rolling out its 3.1 update for European XOOM tablets. The update is launching in “stages” though, so expect a few more days/weeks of internet rage while users wait for it to appear in their countries.

Here’s the statement, taken from Motorola’s Facebook page:

Android 3.1 for Motorola XOOM in Europe has now started to roll out in a number of countries. We are rolling out in stages and will let you now when the update is available in your specific country and so please watch this space. Details will be posted within the discussions tab and so please join us there or visit

xoom android 31 update live

Now only slightly less out-of-date than the Eee Transformer! Thanks to reader Denny for the tip. Let’s hope it actually does arrive this time, eh? Motorola said this before, back at the end of June

LOL, My Asus Transformer got 3.2 last week, with a rather fancy new zoom feature, which makes all smartphone apps look sensible on a tablet…

I’m guessing Xoom owners might see it sometime in 2012…

No us Xoom owners (who know a few things) have had 3.2+ (+ for all the additional improvement) for weeks. Team Tiamat Xoom Rom for the win!

Apparently today’s release is 3g only apart from France so wifi only owners still have to wait.

I got 3.1 for my euro 3G XOOM – so far it’s a lot better.Thank you for that Motorola.

It doesn’t change the fact that european customers are treated as 2nd class compared to US customers (but then again, south americans are treated even worse). It took Motorola 3 months to roll out 3.1, despite the fact that it was the 3.0 launch device. How hard can it be?

The XOOM will be my last Motorola Android device. I don’t like being treated as 2nd class and I suspect other european are like me.

My Xoom Wifi has been upgraded to Android 3.1 this morning (in France). So it is not only for 3G models.

  6. Another vote for Tiamat 3.2. Screw waiting for Moto to release the last version, not even the current version FFS.

The Xoom is actually a lovely piece of kit, but sadly Motorola has treated their non-US customers with utter contempt, just as they did with the Milestone. When will they learn their lesson? The Xoom could have been a great success, if only they had put their customers first. That means updates, promised features being delivered as advertised. Stop this BS of artificially segmenting the market and treating European owners as second-class citizens.
