HTC’s on a roll today. As well as launching a slightly odd unbranded Android 2.3.3 release for the original HTC Desire, the company has pushed out its official Android 2.3.3 update for the UK-spec HTC Desire Z as well. It’s been available in Europe for quite some time.
The Desire Z update is a standard over-the-air distribution, which is arriving on unbranded versions of the phone connected to all networks in the UK today. You’ll need to hassle and threaten your network for news on the upgrade if your Desire Z is a network-branded version.
Thanks to quite a few of you for pointing this out. Good to see the phone has a decent number of fans, too.

/ August 2, 2011Updated OK, don’t know why it was about 2 months later than the Desire HD that we also have. Build seems to be 2.50.405.2 on the HD and 2.42.405.2 on the Z.
Kernel date on the Z is Jun 13 as against Jun 9 on the HD.
HD is a contract T Mobile, Z is on Three monthly data no contract

/ August 2, 2011Sunnie- good info. BUT- is it a good update, whats the difference? HTC said some things would be removed or deleted to make space for the update- can you imeediately see what?

/ August 2, 2011Got the update last night ready for this morning. Not had a chance to play in depth but there are some graphical changes. The biggest difference so far is that the Picasa Web Albums process keeps stopping – very annoying!

/ August 2, 2011Hi all,
Im the UK and got the update last night (I am using a simfree handset). It’s a nice update, quite a few graphical changes for the better. So far most noticeable is the new main app menu, which has better scrolling and grouping. I have also noticed the start up time seems about 2-4 seconds quicker, and notifications work much better.
