ZTE has confirmed plans to sell phones in the UK under its own name, with the previously announced ZTE Skate launching in Q4 as… the ZTE Skate. Previously ZTE has made phones for other companies to stick their logos on, like the Orange San Francisco and the forthcoming Orange Monte Carlo – which is the ZTE Skate under a different name.
ZTE has said the ZTE Libra will launch in the UK later this year. The Libra’s been floating around for months and is a 3.5″ Android phone running at 480×800 resolution. ZTE’s UK distributor Brightpoint has a very thorough look at it…
…which reveals a phone with a 600MHz processor, plus a completely unskinned and natural Android 2.3.4 onboard. Might be useful if it’s cheap enough.

/ July 14, 2011Interesting how the model number of the ZTE Libra says ZTE-BLADE. Are ZTE just recycling that with android 2.3.4?

/ July 14, 2011With the exception of the slightly bumped camera model, this seems to be a complete re-badge of the ZTE Blade.
They’ve managed to update the software, but then you can root the ZTE Blade with a bent paper clip and a 5p coin anyway to run 2.3 so that’s not much of an incentive! :)
Infact I just spotted the screenshot on that page linked to actually lists the model as the ZTE Blade!
Odd for the guys who get their phones re-badged all the time to start re-badging their own stuff but never mind…

/ July 15, 2011It does seem like a bit of an odd move. But if they can sell it in Tesco for £39.99 or thereabouts it ought to be a big hit.
