HTC has issued another short statement regarding the off/on Android 2.3 update for its popular HTC Desire phone, with the company now saying the Desire version of the Gingerbread upgrade will “begin” to launch before the end of July. Which is at least something. Here’s the full, rather brief, statement:
Hi everyone. We have more news about our build of Gingerbread for Desire. Our testing has gone well so we will begin rolling out the update by the end of July! Thank you again for your support!
But remember, always take update timeline announcements with a pinch of salt. The poor old HTC Desire Z was supposed to have been updated by now…
Still no actual news about what the update will consist of and if/how much of HTC Sense will be appearing, with HTC previously saying that a few features would be chopped to help if fit in the phone’s memory. But at least we’ll know in a couple of weeks.
HTC’s 4.3″ dual-core Android model, powered by Qualcomm’s all-new S4 processor. It’s smaller than the enormous One X, but is it as nice as its bigger brother? (SPOILER: Yes it is).
HTC is very much B-A-C-K at the top of the Android world with this, its quad-core flagship for 2012. Great camera, huge 4.7″ display and Android 4.0 running beautifully well.
Sony returns with an all-new mobile design for 2012, pairing a dual-core processor with a 720p display. It’s a lovely phone, but is it enough to end our Samsung and HTC obsession?
LG’s updated Prada phone comes with an absolutely crazy black & white theme, but is it just for fashionable suit wearers who want to make themselves look a bit more interesting?

/ July 9, 2011Don’t believe in HTC at all. Since June 14 they have been playing with user sentiments without a blink.
They wrote to me also to release 2.3 update in may / early June, then shortly later they stated they will not release. Now they are only buying time.
My friends and cousins have been calling me the HTC brand ambassador, but I now too embarrassed to be one.
Am going to shift to galaxy s ii.

/ July 10, 2011Any idea if carriers are going to release without tampering? If HTC have had to cut apps to make it fit, surely the carriers can’t bulk crap ware onto it. Thanks for the update Eurodroid. You’re my daily android news gossip. Keep up the great work!

/ August 1, 2011Ok, not here in quite the way we hoped. It’s a ZIP file you’ll have to install yourself. Comes with LOADS of disclaimers and says stuff like SMS might not work.
Time to install the InsertCoin ROM I think…
