HTC UK released some clarification last night regarding the arrival of Android 2.3.3 for the Desire HD and Incredible S, pointing out that the update, while launched in Europe, is still “in the final stages of testing here in the UK”.
Which is odd, as a few UK people appear to have it running on their phones already. Here’s the statement from HTC:
We know that you’ve been seeing a number of posts about the Gingerbread update (Android 2.3.3) for HTC Incredible S and HTC Desire HD. Just to let you know that we’re in the final stages of testing here in the UK, just to ensure that the update runs smoothly and will confirm a date for rollout as soon as we can. We really appreciate your patience and support on this.
Apologies for getting some of you excited unnecessarily. As ever, it would appear that GARGANTUAN LEVELS of human patience are required when it comes to OS updates.
It’s smooth to use, the 1080p display is sharp, clear and bright, the device is extremely light and thin and therefore very pocketable and portable — much more so than other 5-inch phones we’ve used. And yet… we’re a bit unimpressed by the overall package…
A relatively high-spec smartphone, with a 4.5″ display running at 480 x 854 resolution and powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, plus the Ascend G510 arrives running Android 4.1.1 — albeit potentially hindered by Huawei only sticking 512MB of RAM inside it..

/ May 5, 2011Hehehe, how right you are about the required amount of patience!!! Even though the first I heard about the update was a twitter post by HTC clarifying that the update is still being tested, once i looked on the usual android websites, the rush of blood to the head had me tap the check for updates soft button on my screen all evening, early this morning (5am) when my wife put her pillow on my head at 5am this morning because I breached her territory on the bed and around 20 times since then already this morning… updates are very very hard to be patient about.
Had the same issue on my moto atrix (at&t cheap ebay version) which had some serious issues with its HSUPA speeds!!! it got updated eventually 4 or 5 days after I was expecting it.
Worse, when i initially bought my HTC Hero in July 2009, I hoped and prayed for the 2.1 update (which in hindsight was the worst ever update I ever received because it rendered a once semi-decent phone completely unusable!)
THe 2.2 update to my HTC Desire also caused sleepness nights waiting and waiting! lol
( I just realised I am a gadget freak! my wife has been bashing my ears about this for months now and only after typing the above do I realise how bad things have become)
When asus eee transformer honeycomb 3.1 updates begin to get rumoured, I will be due even more sleepness nights and impatience! I might pull an “osama b. laden” black out on tech and shun technology completely and go live in a cave somewhere. I might just get some peace and quiet away from my wife…phew!

/ May 5, 2011Hehehe – my phone is unbranded too. As absurd as this sounds, Vodaphone locked phones will probably get their update BEFORE unbranded users. HTC just kicked me in the teeth…
The latest from HTC is still…final stage of testing for unbranded users. Not impressed… and yes I agree, probably ANOTHER sleepless night (i had all last night to wait in vain, so why not ruin another night’s sleep)

/ May 6, 2011I’m a vodafone user and have got htc desire hd on a contract. The htc site says update is avaialable but its not, for me atleast. I am constantly checking for updates, no success yet.

for branded devices, like your vodafone version, they send it to vodafone and vodafone brand it then send it to you, it will take around 2 weeks.

/ May 6, 2011Funny thing is, if Vodafone are able to release it there is no real reason HTC shouldn’t be doing so as HTC provide their ROM to the network and then the networks make their tweaks before it gets signed off.
My guess is we’ll get it this Saturday or next.

/ May 8, 2011For HTC to release a statement for UK only indicates there was a specific issue with the UK update, may be it was the UK carriers request to release all updates concurretly whic& would cut down on communication with xustomers requesting info about the release datea. That’s my theory !!!! Whatever is reason, it remains unfair.

/ May 10, 2011Is this the price we pay for buying an HTC phone? If you ask HTC customer services the same question twice you get different answers, even from the same person, first time they said it will take up to 2 weeks for my unbranded Incredible S to get the update, couple of days later the same person replied to say it will take few weeks!!!! Can’t believe it, Nexus one is now running Gingerbread 2.3.4 and we still have to wait for our 2.3.3 for a phone that is few months old. Lesson learned, next time am buying a Google phone e.g.Nexus

/ May 10, 2011they might both be android gingerbread, but its not like the version of gingerbread is the same as the one the nexus gets. If you like any of the stuff, apps, widgets etc that comes with sense – like the remote security features, or the app navigation by tom tom, or any other of the sense features, then you wont have them on a nexus.
Hence why it takes time for HTC to put all of that stuff and add it into the gingerbread update. Your phone is still one of the first to recieve the gingerbread update.
