Speaking in a video interview recorded by Mobile World Live, one of Sony Ericsson’s mobile bosses outlined the ambition to see its Android phone sales rise by a factor of seven by 2014, thanks to the “really fantastic growth” Android has been seeing of late.
Sony Ericsson’s Jan Uddenfeldt also stressed the company’s previously stated ambition to become the #1 Android phone hardware manufacturer, saying…
“When we talk about the Android market we are basically number 3 or 4 in that market; that’s really where the big growth is and will determine the success of the company… We have the ambition of being number one on Android and that is of course much higher market share than we have today”
He also confirmed that the company has no plans for Windows Mobile handsets during 2011…
“…right now we are not launching any Windows products for this year… we think Android is a much stronger proposition”
This time last year we would’ve laughed at Sony Ericsson’s aspirations of taking the Android #1 hardware maker spot. But after its launching of the astonishing Xperia Arc and some great developer-focused innovations in both hardware and software of late, we think it might actually stand a chance.

Or are you confusing Sony Ericsson with Sony?

/ May 19, 2011I agree with the comment at the end. Even as a Sony Ericsson user for several years, I smiled a bit when they stated their intentions. Of course, depending on your perspective, the smile has stiffened a bit or has become broader.
