Panasonic Eluga review
The Panasonic Eluga marks the company’s return to the European mobile phone scene years after several years of absence, and it’s come back to us with a moderately high-spec Android model that features a rather stylish, slim case. The Eluga’s powered by a 1GHz dual-core Texas Instruments OMAP processor, which is running a 4.3″ OLED [...]
HTC One V review
The HTC One V is HTC’s third entry in its high-profile new HTC One range, offering a smaller 3.7″ display running on a single-core 1GHz processor. It is is very much the “affordable” option in HTC’s newest Android series, but it still arrives running the same HTC Sense 4 interface we saw in the excellent [...]
HTC One S review
HTC’s 4.3″ dual-core Android model, powered by Qualcomm’s all-new S4 processor. It’s smaller than the enormous One X, but is it as nice as its bigger brother? (SPOILER: Yes it is).
HTC One X review
HTC is very much B-A-C-K at the top of the Android world with this, its quad-core flagship for 2012. Great camera, huge 4.7″ display and Android 4.0 running beautifully well.
HTC One X review: Camera, photo and video samples
Some camera samples taken with HTC’s quad-core Android monster.
Sony Xperia S review
Sony returns with an all-new mobile design for 2012, pairing a dual-core processor with a 720p display. It’s a lovely phone, but is it enough to end our Samsung and HTC obsession?
Sony Xperia S review: Camera, photo and video samples
We’ve spent most of the last week captivated by the staggeringly sharp screen of the new Sony Xperia S, while putting together what will hopefully be something resembling a review for you all to read very shortly. In the meantime, to be getting on with, here are a few sample photos and videos, taken using [...]
LG Prada 3.0 review
LG’s updated Prada phone comes with an absolutely crazy black & white theme, but is it just for fashionable suit wearers who want to make themselves look a bit more interesting?
ACCESSORY REVIEW: Case-Mate Tough Case for Galaxy Nexus
£30? For a phone case? It had better be good.
ACCESSORY REVIEW: Samsung Official Mesh Vent Case for Galaxy Nexus
Samsung’s official Galaxy Nexus case. Costs a lot. Has a glittery little logo.
ACCESSORY REVIEW: Case-Mate Barely There for Samsung Galaxy Nexus
Fresh from reviewing the cheap and cheerful FlexiShield case for the Galaxy Nexus, we’re back with another protective offering from industry veteran Case-Mate. Although this particular product retails for around the same price as FlexiShield’s TPU option, it’s quite a different proposition. Review submitted by extremely patient retro gaming advisor Damo. As the name suggests, [...]
ACCESSORY REVIEW: FlexiShield Case for Galaxy Nexus
Seeing as we’ve just reviewed the brand spanking new Galaxy Nexus, we’re in the mood for some accessorising – and we don’t mean earnings and handbags. To that end, we’ll be covering a few Galaxy Nexus-themed items over the next few weeks, starting with the FlexiShield Case. Review submitted by reader, writer, gamer and occasional [...]

/ May 31, 2011Here we go all over again. Gonna be a race between networks. No doubt my network ‘Orange’ will be a dismal last.
Stephen
/ May 31, 2011Weird seeing as HTC always said “by the end of June”

/ May 31, 2011I’m on Orange. I’ll be very surprised if I ever get that update.
Part of me pities the networks – with this number of different handets running different versions of Android, it must put a big strain on resources and, frankly, there can be little incentive for them to bother once we have our contracts.
But then I remember the shovelware they insist on installing and the useless customisation I have to undo, and all compassion soon wanes.

/ May 31, 2011surely by upgrading to 2.3 will hinder the performance of the processor and eat more and more phone memory…couple that with all the updates google, adobe, FaceBook are doing at the moment there wont be enough space left…
im waiting until my contract ends in september and gettin’ me a new phone…with more memory.

/ May 31, 2011@sanderosa – Gingerbread is a lighter weight OS than Froyo (which in turn was lighter than Eclair) through improvements in design and coding. It has also demonstrably better economy of battery usage. So what it is doing is prolonging the useful life of the hardware – not making it obsolete.
Not quite the same as a new phone of the latest generation, but a very worthwhile update to the Android OS for any handset that will run it.

/ May 31, 2011Well no, none of that is true.
Gingerbread is a heavier OS than froyo, like Froyo was a heavier OS than eclaire.
They might have better battery management than previous OS, but they are still heavier. For an example, The introduction of Froyo gave us the JIT complier, This gives the system a 5x speed improvement, but still requires a higher end processor to use it. Custom roms for older phones such as the G1, got a froyo version but they had to take out certain parts, such as the JIT complier to make it work, as otherwise it would be too sluggish.
The leak of this rom came out over 2months ago, ive had it. It adds Zero functions and there is No difference what so ever, the only difference is now it says 2.3.3 instead of 2.2 on the phone.
It is still a worthwhile update, but it honestly adds nothing except a few security features that was fixed with 2.3.3

/ May 31, 2011If the networks didn’t brand the firmware everyone could have it at the same time and no problems for themselves. ThreeUK didn’t brand the 2.2 update. I got it the same day as wifeys sim free desire.

/ May 31, 2011Three is one of the worst network out there. Always promise you the world and fail to deliver. Fed up with them.
Billy
/ May 31, 2011They’re not really that bad. What would you rather have a barely noticeable os update, or unlimited, all you can eat internet data?
joemmo
/ June 1, 2011Never had any probs with three personally and found the coverage and 3g speeds to be very good.

/ May 31, 2011Lets see which carrier is the first to release a version which is withdrawn hours later because it starts to brick the phone it is on.

/ June 14, 2011just give us the google android 2.3 without the useless htc sense. Very disappointing
