HTC has just issued a further clarification on the arrival of the Android 2.3 upgrade for the HTC Desire HD and Incredible S, following the recent release of the Vodafone version and the subsequent update on the status of the unbranded version for everyone not tied into a network.
Long story short – the hardware maker now says the Android “Gingerbread” update for unbranded Desire HD and Incredible S phones will launch on May 16. Here’s the quote direct from HTC:
“We’ve been pushing this really hard and are pleased to announce that we are aiming to have the HTC Gingerbread update for unlocked HTC Desire HD and HTC Incredible S models available on 16th May 2011. For those waiting for their specific operator update, rest assured that we’re working very closely with each operator to get this just right and will update you as soon as we possibly can”
So there you go.
Just to sum up the situation regarding Android 2.3 on the Desire HD and Incredible S. First of all, HTC said it was out for all phones. Then Vodafone issued its version of the update. Then HTC said the update wasn’t out in the UK. Now it’s DEFINITELY going to be out on May 16 for those of you with unbranded phones (ie, ones without custom network apps & boot screens and so on).
Are we clear?
