UK retailer Carphone Warehouse has attached a FIRM PRICE to the HTC Flyer Android tablet for the first time, with the 7″ machine now available to pre-order in return for £599.
The Flyer comes with both 3G and wi-fi connections, and is set to arrive in “early May” according to the product listing.
As nice as the HTC Flyer looks, we doubt there’s going to be much demand for a 7″ Android tablet at that price. Just ask Samsung.

On the upside though, I ordered my Asus Transformer from Comet on the weekend for £360. Honeycomb indeed, mostly unmodified UI with additions limited to minor widgets and things. Roll on Wednesday!

either way i would not consider paying £600 for basic package… i had thought the idea was to kick Apple where it hurt most….charging a similar price will not achieve that goal.

They offer the expensive model without even advertising it properly, every other tablet shows off their capacity, first and foremost… If this post were about any other tablet, it would at least mention how much flash storage it packs, huge marketing fail by HTC.

I’m guessing like the Galaxy Tab, there will be pretty quick price erosion. They also really need a 10in offering too.

/ April 11, 2011Am I missing something with these tablets? Surely they are meant to be competing with netbooks rather than trying to replace full sized laptops/notebooks? I’m just an average consumer (maybe slightly more gadget orientated perhaps), but to me, to even consider a tablet, it would need to be around the £300 mark.

/ April 11, 2011Is it just me or if you follow the link to the carphonewarehouse website does the advert read as if the device has a 1.7″ touch screen!
599 for a 7″ tablet, with single core cpu, with a pen and no pen holder, running a phone OS… sorry for me not going to happen!
Lets hope tomorrow brings some better news from HTC and lets hope as bruce would say the price is right!

/ April 11, 2011I can’t agree enough with the comments already posted – 599 must be a mistake. Acer transform is looking like the one to buy, but really we should be talking about 300 as the top end for these tablets because their shelf life will be about 12 months as the progression of the new low power ARM chips means that today tigra chipset will be considered under powered very soon.

/ April 11, 2011Wow, this is a joke. 600 sheets for an already-outdated (hardware AND software-wise) and small tablet? I don’t think so somehow. I have absolutely no idea why HTC absolutely insist on having Sense UI built into their software either, when it’s evident that Honeycomb is a perfectly adequate tablet interface. Samsung made this mistake already, they paid for it, and they’ve learned from it. Why are HTC not doing the same thing?
