HTC: Flyer tablet will get Android 3.0 upgrade “when it’s made available”

HTC has just given us another reason to get quite excited about its lovely looking HTC Flyer Android tablet – it will get an upgrade to the “Honeycomb” Android 3.0 version of the OS at some point in the future.

The wording of the announcement, made on HTC’s twitter account, is a little odd, though – it says it’ll be offering an Android 3.0 upgrade for the Flyer “when it’s made available”…

…which sounds like a promise with a built-in get out clause to us. Link via Engadget.

  1. In other words, HTC did not abide by the OHA rules and used Android phone OS for a tablet even though Google told them not to and now they are trying to point the finger at Google because they don’t have access to Honeycomb. . . . is that about right?

Well, I guess HTC can just wait then. Another reason to be avoiding these tablets that don’t have Honeycomb on them.

If you are going to use a free OS the least you could do is follow the guidelines, HTC.

  2. Bollocks, HTC. If Samsung can crank out 2 3.0 tablets by the same time you get one out, then your argument is void. Maybe if you spent less time arsing about with Sense and actually developing on the platform Google have specified is for tablets, you wouldn’t have to make silly excuses like this.

Yet Samsung is so behind the game with their first galaxy s phones just receiving 2.2 about 2 months ago. I agree that any newly launched tablet should be running 3.0 but as an evo 4G owner I’ve received two updates in the last year to my evo 4G.
