Yet more amazing documentary evidence on the rapid success of Android, this time courtesy of retail chain Carphone Warehouse. In a headline-grabbing press release issued today, the retailer has said it’s sold over one million Android phones in Europe – and year-on-year sales numbers have increased by “well over 2000%”.
Here’s the particular quote:
“The speed with which Android has stormed the market is phenomenal … Year on year growth is well over 2000%.”
That’s BIG GROWTH.

Android Sales Hit One Million at The Carphone Warehouse
15 March 2011… The Carphone Warehouse is celebrating the sale of its one millionth Android smartphone in Europe. Android has become increasingly popular over the past year and hitting this landmark figure reflects not just the growing demand for Android smartphones amongst consumers, but also the increasing product range they present customers.
The success of Android smartphones such as the HTC Desire, HTC Wildfire and Samsung Galaxy S have been key in reaching this milestone, and with new launches including the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Samsung Galaxy S 2, and LG Optimus 3D in the pipeline, it looks set to continue. It’s smooth to use, the 1080p display is sharp, clear and bright, the device is extremely light and thin and therefore very pocketable and portable — much more so than other 5-inch phones we’ve used. And yet… we’re a bit unimpressed by the overall package…
A relatively high-spec smartphone, with a 4.5″ display running at 480 x 854 resolution and powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, plus the Ascend G510 arrives running Android 4.1.1 — albeit potentially hindered by Huawei only sticking 512MB of RAM inside it..
