Vodafone UK is advising customers who pre-ordered the new Xperia PLAY Android phone that it won’t be able to meet the planned April 1st launch date. A customer forwarded the email to video games site VG247, in which Vodafone says there will be a “small delay”.
Here’s more of what Vodafone said:
“Sony Ericsson have advised us that they will not be able to supply the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play to meet the original launch date of 1 April. Unfortunately, this means there will be a small delay to your order…”
Sony Ericsson has responded already, claiming a “freight issue” is actually responsible for the delays:
“…we have experienced a freight issue that may impact the number of Xperia PLAYs arriving at some retail outlets. This said, consumers can purchase Xperia PLAY as of April 1st at a number of stores across the UK”
Which means you might have to fight to get one of the above. As you may remember, the phone’s already been delayed by O2, so this might turn out to be a memorable product launch for all the wrong reasons.
