There’s some quite amazing news out there for owners of the original Sony Ericsson X10 Android phone today – the maker has announced plans to bring the Android 2.3 “Gingerbread” update to the phone sometime during Q2 and Q3 of this year.
Here’s the confirmation:
We plan to bring an upgrade to Android Gingerbread for the XperiaTM X10 to generic trade kits end Q2 / early Q3 this year. We have heard your requests all along but until today have not been able to confirm this. The great work on our 2011 products XperiaTM PLAY, XperiaTM arc and XperiaTM neo actually has enabled us to start the work in a special project bringing Gingerbread to the XperiaTM X10.
Previously Sony Ericsson constantly maintained that the X10 wouldn’t be going past the recently released Android 2.1 update. This is quite a large and welcome turn around.
Read the full announcement over on the Sony Ericsson Product Blog. Then weep with joy.

/ March 25, 2011Good news indeed. What I note the most is the hints of streamlining development at S/E. A now meaner, leaner and nimble company.
Bring it S/E. :)

/ March 27, 2011I doubt they’ll receive it, they’re phones aimed at the lower segment of the market.
