Entirely innocent chat application "Grindr" now available on Android

Grindr looks like a lovely Android application. Lots of nice people to talk to. Look at them all, lined up and ready to talk about mobile phones. Let’s just install it and see what all the fuss is about.

It seems to be very popular on iPhone, so it must be good.

It won’t be much use where we live. Thanks to reader “Gadders” for the tip. Not that kind of tip. This is a minefield, this one. Do let us know if you’ve tried it out on Android…

    Finally Grindr for Android!!

Attractive app. Is a little buggy but hopefully they’ll sort that soon.

You need to be somewhere with a high density population to make it worthwhile. Luckily I’m in London where there is an abundance of gays!

    • Would help it mine worked at all!!!
The app keeps losing my profile, only works when I am connected to WI-FI other than that its useless and really disappointed because its works brilliantly on the i-Phone! Why can’t android get it right first time like apple?!? Big Disappointed!

      Unsatisfied!!!

      • Benn, I think its more the case of Grindr getting it wrong on Android first time. I mean their Android based rivals (also on the iPhone, touch and iPad) like Gaydar and Scruff got it right on Android first time?

To be honest Grindr looks like a port and not a re-write. For example Grindr needs GPS turned on to work. The rivals seem to use the Google maps API to get location from WiFi and Cell Tower triangulation (i.e. GPS turned off will not generate a force close , and won’t occasionally put you over 8,000km from your current location).
