The popular and unbelievably good CONSOLENAME-oid series of Android emulators has been updated today, with the arrival of N64oid on the Android Market. It is, as the name subtly hints at, an N64 emulator for Android.
The developer states that it’s “far from being perfect” but it’s already running pretty well with sound and most games at full speed. It’s certainly better than we could do.
Looks amazing. Looks about perfect. N64oid is a paid add, costing £3.67 in our money – and unlike the SNES and Mega Drive versions there’s no feature-limited free trial version just yet. Link via Pocket Gamer.

/ March 4, 2011Suggestion in screenshots that you’ve tried out Mario Kart… How is it? It’s tempting to stick a Wii controller in my bag for an imminent plane trip so I can play.

/ March 4, 2011They’re just the grabs off the Market listing. Can’t be bothered fishing about with ROMs at this time of day.

/ March 4, 2011I’ve just tried it with Mario Kart on the Desire – and sadly it’s so laggy it’s unplayable. It might be much better on a dual core though

/ March 4, 2011Thanks Dean. Never mind then.

/ March 4, 2011I have a Desire too so thanks for saying about the lag. I would like to see how well Perfect Dark runs on it, if anyone can try it out. I’d pay for it if I could get it running and if I could find roms that actually work. I went through that with the PS1 emulator – simply couldnt get it running….. got frustrated and gave up!

/ March 4, 2011Using my Desire HD I’ve tried a few, Banjo Kazooie runs well, so do Goldeneye and Rampage. The wierd Castlevania games runs fine. Paper Mario doesn’t work though and neither does Destruction Derby.
There are few little graphical and audio glitches in all the games I tried, and others may have more (or less) luck than me.

/ March 4, 2011For roms there is an application on the market called ROM Gripper++

/ March 5, 2011Just tried perfect dark. The only thing that runs near perfect is the spinning Nintendo logo right at the start. Everything after that is a disaster to the point that the game doesn’t actually run at all. Staring at a blank scfreen as I type this.
Maybe these 1 Ghz Snapdragon processers aren’t upto the job or the the emulator needs a bit more woek. Either way I don’t think I’ll be trying it again soon.
Big Shame.

/ March 5, 2011Thanks Ollie and Dean. I’m still tempted to check it out. Nice one.
