According to our new best friend the Android Market web site, Google’s impressively named Google Authenticator two-step verification Android app was released last December. But only now is it getting some publicity, after Google announced plans to start using the system on its accounts.
To put it simply, two-step verification is the annoying future of logging in to things, where it’s not enough to simply have a password. You put in the password, then input a randomly generated code…
…generated via your Google account using the above Android app. So in order to access your Google accounts, someone would have to guess/steal your password and have access to your phone. Annoying, but safer if you leave your expensive new telephone in a taxi.
Thanks to reader Mark for the tip.
