People have been gossiping about the possible arrival of an official BBC iPlayer app for iPad for the last few days – a rumour which the BBC has just confirmed. And there’s good news for Android users, too, with the BBC saying there WILL be an iPlayer app for Android as well.
Here’s the BBC’s list of iPlayer app headline features:
Watch live TV and listen to radio (not previously widely available on mobile devices)
Access the BBC’s full catalogue of catch-up programmes; seven-days’ TV and radio on demand as well as series stacking (as you get on the web)
A simple and intuitive design with high picture quality and personalised favourites (making the most of the touch-screen UI, and a popular feature on the website)
For some bizarre reason, though, the BBC says the Android app requires “Android version 2.2″ with “Adobe Flash 10.1 Player installed ” – which is the same as the current situation with the iPlayer mobile site. Which makes us think the BBC Android iPlayer “app” will actually be more like a browser skin.
The BBC says it plans to have both iPad and Android apps in their relevant app stores by the end of the week. Read the full announcement over on the BBC Internet Blog.

/ February 8, 2011Can’t believe it has taken so long. I used to use the purpose built app on my Nokia, had a Desire the last 10 months and the mobile app (used as a bookmark) seems just as good. No doubt I’ve overlooked some extras.

/ February 9, 2011I’m not a great fan of Disqus. What is it you need? Notification of replies? Or additional emoticons?
