The old faithful Eurodroid HTC Magic has received the first part of the shock Vodafone Android 2.2.1 upgrade. We didn’t realise that, as with the long-running HTC Hero Android 2.1 update saga , the 2.2 update for the Vodafone Magic is a two part affair.
You wait for part one, which prepares your phone for the update, then you wait ages for part two – the actual update. It certainly raises the tension of the process.
We have part one. We’ll let you know when part two arrives. Suspect none of you are really interested in the update process of the ancient HTC Magic, but without the Magic none of *ALL THIS* would exist, so we’re going to push on with it regardless of public opinion.
It’s smooth to use, the 1080p display is sharp, clear and bright, the device is extremely light and thin and therefore very pocketable and portable — much more so than other 5-inch phones we’ve used. And yet… we’re a bit unimpressed by the overall package…
A relatively high-spec smartphone, with a 4.5″ display running at 480 x 854 resolution and powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, plus the Ascend G510 arrives running Android 4.1.1 — albeit potentially hindered by Huawei only sticking 512MB of RAM inside it..
The Panasonic Eluga marks the company’s return to the European mobile phone scene years after several years of absence, and it’s come back to us with a moderately high-spec Android model that features a rather stylish, slim case.
Sony returns with an all-new mobile design for 2012, pairing a dual-core processor with a 720p display. It’s a lovely phone, but is it enough to end our Samsung and HTC obsession?
LG’s updated Prada phone comes with an absolutely crazy black & white theme, but is it just for fashionable suit wearers who want to make themselves look a bit more interesting?

/ December 15, 2010Well I’m still carrying a Magic for at least another three months and I just received the second update. Over 3G and after a reboot it is very nice. Multi touch zooming works, faster performance all around, very nice new gallery are the first few changes I’ve noticed. So far very ecstatic.

The glacial pace of updates is probably the #1 reason why my next phone will not be a HTC – though unfortunately that makes the Nexus pretty much the only alternative option.

/ December 15, 2010The Vodafone Magic is a weird custom version known as the 32B. Guess it depends where you are, and how much involvement Vodafone had in the creation/funding of this.

Nice they haven’t forgotten about it. Just hope they don’t force 360 software on it like they tried wither the desier.

/ December 15, 2010Got fed up with vodafone for no Android update/no news about Android update for the Magic – contract finished to just dumped vodafone and switch to new provider yesterday – Doh! Even more annoying is I told vodafone why I was leaving but nobody thought to say wait a week.

/ December 15, 2010It’s ridiculous that Vodafone have said NOTHING about this update, until the day it launched. Glad it’s here, but it was a shoddy way of treating its customers. Loads have rooted or moved networks to escape 1.6.

/ December 16, 2010I heard about the rumoured update to the Magic operating system way back, but expected that Vodafone would have given us some notice beforehand.
The look is very nice and still as easy to navigate around. Unlike my previous handsets, I’ve been looking forward to my next upgrade within weeks. I’m still happy with the Magic and the system update will keep me happy until the end of my contract.

/ March 10, 2011hey, my htc magic t-mobile mytouch 3g(finally) is able to system upgrade to 2.1. And as it needed space to start the upgrade, i reformat the phone and now i didnt receive any system updates. whats wrong? please do help.. does changing settings or changing time.date speeds up the duration in getting the update?
