The 7″ Advent Amico Android tablet is now in stock over at PC World. If you don’t mind taking a punt on a rather unknown hardware configuration, you may now put one in your little online shopping basket and buy one in return for £129.
It’ll be an ideal Christmas present for… yourself.
The Advent Amico comes with Android 2.1 running on a 300MHz ARM9 processor inside. Which might work, or might not. The touchscreen is resistive, so it’ll be a struggle whatever. Here’s the tech spec sheet:

/ January 5, 2011Joe S, are you a travelling bookkeeper?
No, sorry, Excel cannot be installed on this device. You could have used Google Docs’ spreadsheet (despite you not being interested in ‘WEB’) but that only works properly on Android 2.2, which this doesn’t have and likely never will.
I can only suggest you buy a laptop.
Also, you should take a second look at ‘WEB’. It’s what all the cool kids are into. That and drugs. And seeing how far they have to go in before they get banned from commenting on Eurodroid.

/ January 8, 2011Sorry to say I bought one of thes ethe other day.
lamentably slow, ‘cos it’s running Android 2.1 it isn’t instaled with marketplace – if you can see a website which provides APK files you can download them, else you have to put them onto micro-sd memory.
Seems to work marginally better with ‘Dolphin’ browser, but I have pros running Fash 10, so no iPlayer etc (suspect the hardware isn’t up to it anyway)
Consider it a ‘bigscreen MP3 Player’ rather than a proper android tablet, otherwise it’s just a toy.
Probably best avoided, wait 18 months for the price to drop tp £60 or get a better machine for £250
