An updated version of Mozilla’s mobile version of Firefox 4 is now available in the Android Market, with the maker promising an updated visual feel, new Extensions options, offline reading tools and more. It’s still not the Firefox 4 Mobile, but is edging toward losing its beta tag.
Firefox 4 Beta 3 for Android is a 13.4MB download, takes up a vast 17.8MB on your phone (we’re getting a low memory warning on our HTC Desire after putting it on) and looks a bit like this:
There’s an absolutely shocking number of spam apps on the Android market using the Firefox name – the one you want is called “Mobile Firefox Web Browser” and is obviously the one shown as being developed by Mozilla.
Seems all right, but can’t help but wonder… why? Read the official party line over on the Mozilla blog. There’s also a Maemo version. For Dave. You know, Dave the Maemo fan. He’s got a blog about it and everything.

/ December 22, 2010Still nowhere near as good as the built in Android Webkit browser, let alone the Opera Mobile Android browser…

/ December 23, 2010Opera Mobile uses 6MB and feels abotu 3x faster in use, it’s also got hardware acceleration on Android.
For that reason I see no reason to run Firefox on Android.
Opera’s been in the mobile market for many years, Firefox a few months, and the quality of their product shows.
