Last month’s beta launch of Google’s new “Instant” mobile search tool was a sadly US-only affair. But that’s been rectified today, with Google putting its predictive system onto smartphones in another 40 countries and 28 languages. You need Android 2.2 to make it work, though.
Here’s Google’s launch announcement:
When we launched Google Instant for mobile in beta back in November, we announced that we would be supporting additional countries and languages, beyond just the U.S. in English. Today we’re happy to let you know that Google Instant for mobile is now available in 28 languages and 40 countries worldwide. If you have an Android 2.2+ or iOS4 device, just go to google.com in your mobile browser and you will be redirected to your local domain. Then, tap the Google Instant link beneath the search box to enable it.
And here’s the official imagery. One in German, one in what looks like French:
Haven’t tried it, personally. Not a big fan of things that automatically complete themselves, plus the requirement for a data connection means you’ll end up waiting for suggestions to “load”. But still. Playing with it will kill five minutes while waiting for Maps 5.0 to launch.
