In a rather vague statement issued to Techradar earlier today, HTC confirmed that some of its current range of Android phones WILL eventually see an update to the new Android 2.3 – but it didn’t say which models.
Surely everything currently upgraded to Android 2.2 ought to be powerful enough, though. Here’s the quote from HTC regarding its status when it comes to the “Gingerbread” 2.3 update:
“We are excited about the OS update coming for Android, and while HTC will definitely have some phones running this OS, we do not have a specific timeframe for new phones or updates at this time. Please stay tuned for more details”
Good work on not being specific, HTC. Giving out dates for updates never works well.
To be honest, we fired up Android 2.3 on the development emulator last night and were left struggling to find anything particularly new or worth getting excited about. No offense, Google, but we might just sit out your version 2.3 and wait for the next one. If it comes, it comes.

/ December 8, 2010Wifi Hotspot and USB tethering can be enabled by following these instructions:
* note this only works for branded Desires on Orange.
Menu/settings/Wireless&Networks/Mobile networks/Access Point Names
You should see the following three APNs;
Orange Internet
Consumer Broadband
Orange MMS
Select Consumer Broadband
CHANGE the APN from consumerbroadband to orangeinternet
CHANGE the Username from to Orange
CHANGE the password from to Multimedia
Make sure you use the capital first letters exactly as I’ve typed them there.
Authentication type should be set to CHAP.
Press your Menu button, tap “Save”
after this both wifi hotspot and usb tethering should work.
