GALLERY: Android Google Maps 5.0

We’re very excited about the imminent vector-based Google Maps update. So here are some nice, high-res images of it in action, via tech site Gizmodo. The site says it’ll require Android 1.6 or higher in order to run, but the 3D features, as you might expect, will only be accessible on something with a bit more power than your old HTC Tattoo.

Amazing to think that Android phones will soon have a better Maps client than the full size desktop tool.

Gizmodo also confirms all sorts of great new features for Android Maps, including offline map caching that saves your “most visited” places for easy access when there’s no mobile connection – and it even fires up the new 3D building view when disconnected, too. As Andy Rubin said yesterday, VECTOR-POWERED Android Google Maps 5 will launch this week.
