We’ve been amusing ourselves with a copy of Orange Pixel’s Mini Army on Android for the last week or two, a top-down war game which the maker seriously under sells as being a “Basically a Snake clone”.
It is a Snake clone, but one given a superb cartoon military design, reminiscent of the 16-bit glory days. You know, back when video games used to be interesting.
Your only controls are turning left and right to “collect” enemy soldiers. However, there’s a separate “Tactics” play mode where your little soldiers and the enemies have life bars over their heads, turning it into more of a cerebral challenge than a simple Snake remake.
Mini Army is also one of the new wave of OpenFeint enhanced titles, bringing an additional layer of stats, scores, Achievements and online leaderboards to it. It’s a very sweet and technically impressive little game that’s well worth a €0.99 punt.
