This is all a bit weird and vague, but it looks like Sony Ericsson has launched the Android 2.1 update for its X10 family of Android phones in the UK. Or at least it might have done.
We say it’s rather vague because Sony Ericsson itself doesn’t seem to be entirely clear exactly which OS update “kits” have been made available in which regions, or for which phones, with some X10s, X10 Minis and X10 Mini Pros in some areas maybe getting updated this weekend.
We’ll let Sony Ericsson explain it:
It’s a bit complex since the three products don’t always go together in this roll-out so for the markets below it could be that the update is out for all three products or for just one of them. Most of the new confirmations seems to be specifically for the X10 mini pro.
Some key ones that should have the update out now for at least the X10 mini pro (and potentially also the others) are: Generic kits for UK, China, the Baltics, Belgium, France and India, and then also some operator kits in countries like the Nordics, Australia, France and Greece.
In the information I received I also was promised that there will be more kits rolled out during the weekend, I hope to be able to confirm something more over the weekend.
So… you may or may not get your X10 Mini Pro updated to Android 2.1 this weekend if you live in the UK. Or in China. It’s clearly a very complicated business.
The guy who maintains the Sony Ericsson Product Blog is doing a great job of responding to users’ questions about the X10 updates in this thread, so if you have a query about your particular phone and network variant, pop over and ruin his weekend.

/ November 6, 2010Did my wife’s x10 mini this morning. Got stuck in a boot loop. Left it to flatten completely in the loop. Then managed the update. The phone flies now! It’s quicker than my Galaxy S! Oh, and it was me on the Sony Ericsson forum moaning!

/ November 6, 2010I updated my x10i at 4 am this morning, the new software makes the phone so much smoother and it really does fly, sony have done well but I never expected them to take so long with this update. Honestly a company like sony/ sony ericsson can easily blow the iphone and htc phones out of the water. So why don’t they ?
