Google’s tireless developers have updated the company’s Platform Versions page again, this time giving us a breakdown of the software on the phones of Android users for the period ending November 1st.
The data, which records the OS used when phones make a connection to the Android Market, shows that slightly over 36% of Android users are now on the latest 2.2 version of the OS, with Android 2.1 now on 40.8% of handsets and 1.5 and 1.6 slowly withering away. Here’s the illustration:

Last time around, Android 2.2 was on 33% of connected phones. And that was only a month ago.

/ November 2, 2010If only OEMs would release a 2.2 ROMs for their older handsets. Most people haven’t even seen 2.1 yet!
I guarantee that most of these numbers are phones like the Motorola Droid2/Milestone2 which were shipped with 2.2 – the rest would be made up of the countless Desires that seem to be owned by everyone.

/ November 2, 2010I’m running 2.2.1 – no thanks to HTC though.
I’ve had to root, and install a custom ROM on my Legend…
