While Samsung’s Galaxy Tab is aiming for the flash, big-spending end of the market, UK superstore chain ASDA has a cheaper option to go alongside it for those on limited budgets – in the super-cheap form of the 7″ Elonex e-Touch.
It’s a 7″ tablet with a resistive touchscreen and Android 1.6. Pretty much the very definition of “entry level” in Android tablet world, and nothing for the likes of us to get excited about.
But for people who don’t understand such things as capacitive screen technology and Android Market access, it’ll do for something cheap to Tweet about X Factor with via wi-fi. The more technically aware of you should shuffle on down the electronics aisle with your trolleys empty.

/ November 1, 2010Certainly not bad value for less than £100. A capacitive touchscreen and £50 more pricetage would make is a much more appealing option for me.

/ November 2, 2010Wasn’t Currys/Dixon’s Advent tablets supposed to launch today too?
By the way, the resolution on the Elonex is the expected 800 X 480 which Asda didn’t feel like mentioning for some reason.

/ November 2, 2010They’ve been delayed by at least a couple of weeks, according to the PR people.

/ February 15, 2011I find its ok for the money, however mine constantly crashes, very frustrating! good for movies though. I find the apps a bit of a minefield, just installed firmware update from elonex website so hopefully less crashing.

/ April 15, 2011I purchased a 10.2″ e-touching Android tablet on Mid-December. It was delivered Dec. 28, 2010. Within 3 days the tablet was having trouble. Withing 10 days it would not even boot. I followed all instrictions to return the tablet for repair or replacement. It sat in customs for 2 months and the company refused to pay duty to let the tablet back in. The tablet was returned to me in the original shipping box I used unopened. They have not sent me a replacement or my money back. THEY ARE WITHOUT HONOR and do not support their purchases in the United States. I have lost over $400.00 on this purchase.

/ April 15, 2011My tablet was my first paypal purchase so I have no way to recover my money even after I submitted a dispute. I did not know all the procedures. I am at a loss on what to do next. I do not want to throw good money after bad. NEVER purchase from China without local support and warranties.
Yours truly,
Kenneth M. Johansen

/ May 9, 2011I am waiting for a replacement to come. ANDROID would not boot and according to elonex it needed a firmware upgrade. From new out of the box, weird! Still I await the replacement working one eagerly. Yes supose I would like an iPAd but I am not sure I could live with one and at £500 to find out that’s a risk I aint taking. If I get on with the elonex and it gets a good amount of use THEN I might consider buying the Apple.
